Wonderful piece. I believe in its central tenets, though probably not the way you picture it. I’m particularly intrigued by “those directly set against His will.” I wonder if we could define these people properly. Doing so would certainly make a lot of people, now sure of not being on the list, at least rethink a lot of their behaviors, wouldn’t it? Impressive stuff!
Yes, a relationship. Don’t try to knock the door down. I knew someone in the same situation. Basically, he said he was jealous of her “religion.” She prayed of course, easy prayers, not hard or forceful ones, basically withdrawing verbally on the subject. One day she suggested Jesus can be known, as any living person can be known.
“Don't feel weird. Simply ask Him, is it true? Are you really here, a person?” Then she went and got busy on something else.
And, secretly, without telling her he did this. (The best way, secretly).
In the night they were sleeping, he suddenly started awake, and said, ”There’s knocking!” She said, ”Open the door,” turned over and fell back asleep, letting the Lord (and him) handle it.
Thank you again, I struggle with my husband when I bring up my faith he calls it "religion", I call it a "relationship", I try so hard to set an example for my kids, we say a prayer at the dinner table every night before our meal and say prayers with my kids at bed time and my daughter is now in a Christian youth group, but my husband still stands to not want to budge. I will keep the faith, God will move in HIS way and in HIS time. Keep up the wonderful work that God has placed on your heart.
Your husband reminds me of my pop in a sense due to a level of stubborness - I'm aware of who "I" get it from. (Don't intend to come off offensive, I really don't ma'am) It's just been extremely interesting to say the least being that young child growing up in a household where both parents were firm in their beliefs, only they were in opposite directions. Peace be upon you and your family, and thank you for sharing your experience.

A marriage of believers ever since, 50+ years.
